 Case Study: The Shout! Factory

It's not everyday that a perennial pop-culture favorite, like The Shout! Factory, takes their act online. While the purveyor of classic animation, cult horror and movies that we've all seen, but seldom talk about, is no stranger to the web, establishing an email-marketing presence was something different entirely.

The Challenge

When the average person receives countless marketing emails each day, how can a vendor, with The Shout! Factory's diverse offerings and cult popularity status, stand out in a crowded market? - even with the titles we all know and love?

The Approach

It was clear from the get-go that the answer to this creative challenge resided in the Shout! Factory's classic and colorful, yet simple vintage branding. Like The Shout! Factory itself, the company's sub-brands each featured a unique, yet homogenized, approach to their branding, which made creating a look that could translate across Shout!, Scream and Shout! Kids a no-brainer. Utilizing the logos as a source for the look, colors and presentation, was a no-brainer, but the results were surprisingly simple, yet memorable. Furthermore, to get around the obvious limitations of responsive, still present in email, a fluid layout that would expand to fill handsets, as well as scale to fit tablets, laptops and desktops was used to ensure a predictable experience.

The Result

When all was said and done, this particular iteration resulted in a visually-memorable product that featured the company's products, as well as set itself apart in the space, as well as created a clear visual distinction between its own sub-brands. This iteration was also quick and easy to produce, utilized a single code-base and maximized its value, by dramatically decreasing the resources required to produce the finished product.
